The Rebecca Ferguson-led sci-fi hit’s dystopian plot had its toll even on Silo’s production team — here’s what one of its members shared.

It’s definitely hard to watch Apple TV+’s Silo, but it might be even harder to make it.

Starring Rebecca Ferguson, the series is based on Hugh Howey’s trilogy of novels and is set in a dystopian future where people have to hide from whatever danger on Earth in a giant silo.

While Silo’s first season, released back in 2023, marked an intriguing start to the show’s four-season journey, the second instalment turned out to be way more challenging, considering that Ferguson’s Juliette has now embarked on a full-scale mission to uncover the silo’s mysteries, as well as to find out more about its past and present.

Particularly, Silo’s production team also faced major trouble while filming, and some even felt like the series’ sombre entourage was in fact driving them crazy.

‘Silo’ Cinematographer Recalls “Crazy” 15-Months Shooting of Season 2

Filming new episodes wasn’t challenging only for Rebecca Ferguson who had to do impressive stunts and even spend some time underwater, but also for Silo’s director of photography Baz Irvine – who, upon wrapping the second season, made a decision to not return to the next instalment’s set.

Apart from mentioning the extended shooting period that went from 9 to 15 months, Irvine also recalled being severely affected by the show’s production happening in places with lack of sunlight.

“I think I had the scurvy, or one of those old-fashioned diseases. Also, a lot of that time was spent in subterranean sets going slightly crazy due to lack of sunlight. When you do a stint like that, you have to question if you're the right person for the project to go forward next time”, the cinematographer said in a recent interview with ScreenRant.

‘Silo’ Seasons 3 & 4 Are Being Filmed Back-to-Back

Even though Irvine is no longer a member of the show’s production team, he now might be sure his colleagues’ hardships will soon be over, since Silo’s upcoming season 3 and final season 4 are currently being filmed one after another.

“Three is actually just finished. But, interestingly I met the director, Michael Dinner, who I worked with on season two … he made the decision to stay on and do season three and season four, [and] they're actually about to start season four”, Irvine revealed.

While the fourth season is yet to be made, Silo’s third instalment will likely arrive on Apple TV+ sometime next year; the streamer hasn’t yet announced the premiere date.
