The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has just cast its two leading characters, but those unfamiliar with Suzanne Collins’ source material might need to learn more ahead of the movie. Here’s everything we know about Lenore Dove’s story so far.

The movie adaptation for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has just found its Haymitch and Lenore Dove, with both now being portrayed by Joseph Zada and Whitney Peak respectively.

Suzanne Collins’ sequel novel to The Hunger Games goes back in time and follows the events of the 50th Hunger Games, aka the second Quarter Quell, where Haymitch Abernathy was one of four participants from District 12.

The story is also heavily connected to Haymitch’s girlfriend Lenore Dove who becomes the key figure in his eventual reaping — however, even with her constant presence in the plot line, there’s still a lot about her to figure out.

Lenore Dove’s Backstory in Sunrise on the Reaping

Lenore Dove, whose full name comes as Lenore Dove Baird, was born in District 12 sometime in the year of the 33rd Hunger Games; her mother died at childbirth, so, considering that her father also remained an unknown figure, Lenore was raised by her adoptive uncles Clerk Carmine and Tam Amber.

She meets Haymitch when they’re both 10 years old and later on starts dating him, right until the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games comes along.

This is where all their plans for the future are completely torn apart, with the Hunger Games’ new participant Woodbine Chance being killed while trying to run away and Haymitch being chosen to participate instead.

Can Lenore Dove Be Related to Lucy Gray Baird? (Spoiler Alert!)

It’s pretty clear that there’s a direct connection between Lenore Dove and the first ever District 12 winner of the Hunger Games, though Suzanne Collins deliberately keeps it a secret.

In the book, there are several times when Haymitch tries to figure out whether his girlfriend was someone close to Lucy Gray, but Lenore repeatedly refuses to discuss the matter.

However, in the Covey’s secret cemetery Lenore Dove’s grave is located right beside Lucy Gray’s and Maude Ivory Baird’s.

This suggests she is in fact related to the former and thus draws a direct connection between Sunrise on the Reaping and The Hunger Games’ previous sequel novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
