This is the comeback we have all been waiting for.
Crime dramas are one of the most popular genres on television. Not only are they gripping, shocking, and entertaining, but they also offer a unique opportunity to take a close look at the lives and work of law enforcement officers.
Line of Duty Is One of the Most Acclaimed British TV Shows
And as it turns out, the British love their police dramas passionately. Line of Duty premiered on BBC Two in 2012, eventually becoming the most-watched project of the century in the country.
But the accolades do not stop there. During its long six seasons on air, the series managed to win the Royal Television Society Award and the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Drama Series.
So it's hard to overstate the viewers' love for Line of Duty. But why did the creators stop after six seasons? Wait, wait, maybe they didn't.
Line of Duty May Very Well Return for Season 7
In a recent interview with Mirror, actress Christina Chong, who played Nicky Rogerson in the series, admitted that she had discussed bringing her character back to the series:
“So I have been asked about a season, is it seven? Yeah. Potentially Nicola Rogerson will be back for season seven.”
Despite previous hints from Chong and other cast members, a seventh season has yet to be officially announced. Line of Duty's final sixth season aired four years ago – but it's never too late for a really good show to come back.
What Is Line of Duty About?
The series follows Detective Steve Arnott, who is transferred to the Anti-Corruption Unit 12 after refusing to cooperate with his former colleagues following an accidental murder during a police raid.
Arnott is now paired with Detective Kate Fleming, an undercover detective with strong investigative skills. Together, they solve seemingly unrelated cases that lead them to uncover a complex corruption scheme.
Line of Duty Has a Unique Concept
Line of Duty does not simply tell about the everyday life of the police, the main characters are officers of the anti-corruption department. This means that the investigations take place both outside and inside the police force.
The unusual concept – cops expose cops – made the series extremely popular among viewers.
At the same time, Line of Duty is a classic police procedural. Each episode is a separate case, but they are all connected by a common storyline – the transformation of a former counter-terrorist.
