“I would keep doing it for a long time. Sarah Paulson and I talk a lot about that too, like, shoot the finale at her funeral, so to speak,” Murphy said to The Wrap.

As much as we all love AHS, it's becoming clearer with each season that the show might benefit from a graceful exit.
That's upsetting: the recent seasons are the lowest rated seasons in AHS history.
Why? This can be attributed to weak casting choices as well as weak stories that fail to live up to earlier seasons. We keep thinking about the shock and awe of “Murder House” or the twisted brilliance of “Asylum”. Those seasons set such a high bar that newer installments are struggling to reach those heights.
When even die-hard fans are starting to feel the fatigue, you know it's time to wrap up.
“I think it will be the end of the show, which is unfortunate, but it's probably long overdue. The writers and creators clearly stopped caring about it, and it really only thrived when it was the main passion project of Ryan's, and those years have long passed,” Redditor jpgmike wrote.

Season 13 would actually be the perfect symbolic endpoint for AHS. Come on, it's number 13 after all!
Plus: Ryan Murphy's got enough on his plate with other projects. Maybe it's time to channel that creative energy into something fresh rather than trying to keep American Horror Story going just because it's been around forever.
