The game adaptation is already on its way.

The first season of the anime series Devil May Cry, an adaptation of the popular video game franchise of the same name, premiered on Netflix in the spring of 2025.

The project from Studio Mir and showrunner Adi Shankar received mixed reviews: fans of the game criticized the reimagining of the canon, but praised the visual style and soundtrack featuring 1990s hits.

Nevertheless, just a week after the premiere, Netflix renewed the series for a second season. Here's when to expect the second chapter, what it will be about, and how the first season of Dante's story ended.

When Will 'Devil May Cry' Season 2 Be Released?

The second season of Devil May Cry will premiere on May 12, 2026. All episodes will be released on Netflix that day.

Similar to the first season, the second season will likely consist of eight half-hour episodes.

The series isn't a direct adaptation of the games – it features familiar characters in new storylines.

According to the official synopsis published by Netflix, the war between worlds escalates in the second season, and Dante will face his only equal – his estranged twin brother, Vergil.

Since the Season 1 finale hinted at Mundus' true identity, the confrontation between the brothers promises to be pivotal.

Showrunner Adi Shankar has stated that Devil May Cry is a cohesive story spanning multiple seasons, so the second season will be an important step in resolving this conflict.

The first season centered on Dante's confrontation with the White Rabbit, a demon who was trying to open a gateway between Hell and Earth. Agents of DARKCOM, a government anti-paranormal organization led by Lieutenant Mary "Lady" Arkham, sided with humanity.

By the finale, it became clear that the White Rabbit had no intention of enslaving humanity – he was trying to save demonic refugees from an unbearable life in the Underworld. Dante killed the Rabbit but immediately learned the shocking truth: his twin brother Vergil was alive.

Dante wanted to look for him but was stopped by Mary. Meanwhile, DARKCOM chief William Baines decided to launch his own invasion of Hell. At the very end, it was revealed that Mundus – the leader of Hell and ruler of all demons – was Vergil.

The second season promises an epic family reunion that will probably be bloody.
