The author had some serious doubts about his biggest work’s outcome, but ultimately changed his mind.

For modern TV, it might be a tough task to keep up with a constant run of shows based on some author’s literary work, but George Martin ’s case is more of an exception than a rule.

With Game of Thrones having already come to its end back in 2019, the writer is still struggling to finish the two remaining chapters of his book series the show is actually based on.

So far, Martin has spent more than a decade trying to elaborate the storyline for the final books in the most perfect way possible, and has recently stated he might not be able to do so after all. However, the author might have just made a U-turn.

George Martin Is Still Determined to Finish A Song of Ice and Fire

It probably came as a part of realization of how much work has been done at the moment, but for some reason Martin suddenly changed his mind.

In a recent interview with Collider, the author revealed that he still aims at finishing A Song of Ice and Fire’s two remaining chapters no matter what, even if the upcoming books will receive some backlash like the HBO show did back in the day.

“You try to make the story as good as it can be, and some fans will like it, some fans will not like it. You're always going to get criticism, but you've got to keep trying. You've got to try to do everyone the best it can possibly be”, Martin stated, adding that those fans who won’t like the future novels will always have the remaining chapters of A Song of Ice and Fire by their side to come back to.

He then proceeded to reassure everyone that he’s determined to finish the series as it’s “the one thing I'm completely in control of”.

George Martin Wasn’t So Sure About A Song of Ice and Fire’s Future Several Months Ago

The author’s latest update on his work might be a huge relief for those who got upset after Martin’s revelations in December of last year.

Back then, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter the writer stated he was ready to give up on A Song of Ice and Fire after so many years spent with not much progress.

“Unfortunately, I am 13 years late. Every time I say that, I'm [like], 'How could I be 13 years late?' I don’t know, it happens a day at a time... But that's still a priority. A lot of people are already writing obituaries for me. [They're saying] 'Oh, he'll never be finished.' Maybe they're right. I don't know. I'm alive right now! I seem pretty vital”, he added.

However, several weeks later Martin also revealed he had written around a thousand pages for the series’ next instalment The Winds of Winter and was planning to do the same for A Song of Ice and Fire’s final chapter, A Dream of Spring.

It’s not yet clear whether the author is finished with at least one of them by now, but a couple of his recent revelations might be a good indication of the next chapter getting close to its eventual release.
