The ultimate battle: Game of Thrones vs. House of the Dragon. Which show will take the throne? Here's what we think.
For eight seasons, Game of Thrones had us all obsessed with dragons, White Walkers, and who would end up on the Iron Throne. Then came House of the Dragon, which gave us more Targaryens and (you guessed it!) more dragons.
Both shows are set in the rich and complex world of Westeros, but each has its own unique appeal. Today we're taking a closer look at each show's strongest points.
1. Political Intrigue
Winner: ‘Game of Thrones’
Although House of the Dragon has some juicy political drama, Game of Thrones is the undisputed master of the genre. The original series featured more houses and kingdoms competing for power. With characters like Tyrion, Varys and Littlefinger, political scheming was taken to new heights, resulting in unforgettable moments of trickery and betrayal.
2. Dragons
Winner: ‘House of the Dragon’
Unsurprisingly, a show with “dragon” in the title delivers on its promise. While Game of Thrones introduced us to three dragons, House of the Dragon puts these magnificent creatures at the forefront. We see more dragons and they're more integrated into the story.
3. Character's Development
Winner: ‘Game of Thrones’
With eight seasons, Game of Thrones had plenty of time to develop its characters. Characters like Jaime Lannister underwent incredible transformations, evolving from villains into complex, sympathetic figures.
4. Consistency
Winner: ‘House of the Dragon’
We all know that, unfortunately, Game of Thrones had a rocky finale. House of the Dragon, on the other hand, has told a much tighter story thus far. Though it's still early to say, the prequel seems to take a different approach, keeping the storytelling focused and maintaining consistent quality.
5. The Character's Morality
Winner: Tie
Both series excel at creating morally complex characters. Game of Thrones introduced characters such as Cersei Lannister and Theon Greyjoy, who made us constantly question our feelings about them. Similarly, House of the Dragon presents characters like Daemon Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, who also exist in morally gray areas.
A Tie?! Help Us Decide!
Well, it looks like we have a tie and to be honest, comparing these two shows is quite difficult because they both share the same DNA.
