One of the main characters in the series has almost universally been branded a weakling, but fans aren't so sure.

There are quite a few strong-willed, determined and violent characters in the Paramount Plus hit family saga, with family patriarch John Dutton and his extremely loyal daughter Beth being the first that spring to mind.

Kevin Costner and Kelly Reilly are both terrific at portraying these strong characters, capable of any vile act to protect their family, but one of the most impressive performances on the show is delivered by an actor playing a very different kind of person, one who's practically the exact opposite of the people he calls his family.

We are, of course, talking about Wes Bentley and his outstanding performance as Jamie, the adopted son and brother of the aforementioned duo of hardened Duttons.

Even though as the series unfolds many of the other male characters often call Jamie a wimp and a coward, there are quite a few people out there who believe that despite his flaws Jamie actually punches way above his weight when it comes to loyalty.

Even though adopted by one of the wealthiest and most influential cattle ranchers in the US, Jamie chose to become a lawyer, instead of joining his adoptive father's successful cattle breeding business. And it wasn't exactly his decision either, as some fans believe. In actuality, Kevin Costner's character just didn't think his adopted kid was cut out for real men's work.

In spite of all of this, Jamie eventually decides to stay by his adoptive father's side as his lawyer and confidant. Unlike his sister, Jamie relies on words and the power of persuasion rather than brute force.

He never gets corrupted or succumbs to violence and even when his sister loses it and physically assaults him, he never responds in kind, in a way, standing his ground on a whole different level.

So many fans agree that Jamie's not at all a coward, but rather a faithful son and caring brother. He simply happens to be less boorish and more civilised than the rest of his family.
