Mikey Madison’s BAFTA Win Is Another Reason to Watch Her 2016 Show With 98% RT Score

The now potential Oscar winner had her breakout role years before Anora.
Mikey Madison’s Best Actress win at last night’s BAFTA ceremony radically shifted things in the Oscar predictions, bringing her even closer to eventually obtaining the statuette which, according to many bet makers, was definitely secured by Demi Moore until now.
With the latter as magnificent as she could ever be in Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance, Madison was just as astounding in Sean Baker’s Anora, delivering a powerful performance that forever ruined the notion of the American dream for many viewers.
Even though she truly rose to stardom only several months ago, Madison has remained a promising actress for years, and a 2016 comedy drama show that stars the actress in one of the leading roles is another proof of that.
Mikey Madison Had Her Breakout Role in Pamela Adlon’s Better Things
Before Anora got on her work list, Madison was a prominent figure in Hollywood, having starred in Quentin Tarantino ’s 2019 comedy drama Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and the 2022 slasher movie Scream, but her Oscar-worthy acting talent was demonstrated back in 2016, when a show titled Better Things was released.
In it, the actress stars as Maxine "Max" Fox, the oldest daughter of Samantha "Sam" Fox that has to navigate through life as a single mother of three daughters whom she raises in Los Angeles, at the same time trying to get more significant jobs as an actress.
The series essentially follows the hardships of Samantha’s life as she attempts to establish good relationships with her daughters, each and single one of whom has their own unique personality, while also looking after her mother Celia.
The entire cast’s chemistry is unmatched, and Madison’s performance is a raw and very accurate portrayal of turbulence that always accompanies young people’s transformation into actual adults.
Better Things Is a Certified RT Hit That Is Still Unfairly Overlooked
Upon its release back in 2016, the show, which eventually comprised 5 seasons, was warmly received by both critics and viewers, eventually securing impressive scores of 98% and 84% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite having lots of advantages that make it one of the outstanding shows of the recent decade, Better Things didn’t receive that much attention when it dropped its first season, eventually coming to its also quiet end in 2022.
The show unfairly remained a hidden gem for years, and now, ahead of Mikey Madison’s possible Oscar win in a couple of weeks, it might be the best time to give Better Things a watch.
