Final Destination Bloodlines Takes Horror to New Heights

After a 14-year hiatus, Final Destination makes a grand return with its new installment, Bloodlines. The previous films were never that popular among the critics, ranging from 28% for The Final Destination (2009) to 63% for Final Destination 5 (2011) on Rotten Tomatoes.

We’re sensing a big franchise revival with more movies to come. Bloodlines can open up exciting possibilities for not only the Final Destination franchise, but also for other forgotten horror franchises. And right now, we might be witnessing the beginning of a new era for horror overall.

What Do Critics Think About Final Destination Bloodlines?

Final Destination has turned Death itself into an invisible antagonist with a wickedly creative sense of humor. The previous chapters proved to be exciting, but this one is better than any of them, critics claim.

“It was always an extremely strong idea, but the movies didn’t entirely live up to the premise. This, though. This might be the most fun one yet,” Olly Richards (Time Out) wrote.

“In an age of interconnected cinematic universes, it only took six films and 25 years to bring together this horror franchise — ironically, one where causality is a cornerstone of its mythology. Clever, unpredictable and fun,” Todd Gilchrist (Variety) noticed.

“[The movie] revives a legacy final girl, who didn’t exist at all before now, over the course of just one film playing opposite the invisible threat of Death. That might sound like a bad idea, but the blood-soaked series’ triumphant sixth installment is better for the unexpected approach,” Alison Foreman (IndieWire) said.

Final Destination Bloodlines Directors Got the Gig by Faking a Death

Perhaps the most telling sign that this film would be special came from how its directors got the job. Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein faked a death during a Zoom call with producers and executives.

As the meeting was wrapping up, a fire erupted out of nowhere. Fortunately, the two were able to extinguish it. Just when everyone thought the danger had passed, suddenly the ceiling fan crashed down, decapitating one of the directors.
