Next Seasons of ‘Survivor’ Need to Fix This Major Mistake Already

Survivor has one major editing mistake that needs to be fixed. But the Season 49 preview just revealed that they haven't learned from their mistakes.
Reality TV shows live and die by their editing. Editing is the invisible force that keeps us engaged. That same force can also cause us to stop watching. Even long-running shows like Survivor struggle with this.
Fans Are Calling Out ‘Survivor’ Editing Issue
Last night, Season 48 crowned its winner: Kyle Fraser. And you'd think fans would be celebrating. Instead, many have expressed frustration with the show's current editing style. Something's missing from the formula that made Survivor a phenomenon. What is it?
“There's no heart to the way the show presents things anymore. It's become increasingly sterile. There's so much of these episodes that's just a slog to watch and I often find myself just waiting for the next thing to happen. Despite the longer run time I feel like I have less of an understanding of who the players are as people than older seasons,” Redditor Kyrptonauc pointed out.
How ‘Survivor’ Can Redeem Itself Next Season: Back to Basics
Rather than trying to build “marketable” personalities, the show should allow the contestants' true personalities to take center. The best drama comes from people just being themselves.
And the majority of viewers want drama. Isn't that what TV shows are made for anyway? We want that early 2000s show that wasn’t afraid to be messy and show conflict. And yes, we even miss villains.
This more genuine, less polished approach to editing allowed us to form our own opinions about the contestants instead of being told how to feel about them.
‘Survivor’ Season 49 Repeats the Same Mistakes
From what we've seen in the Season 49 preview, it looks like we're in for more of the same. More bizarre one-liners and fewer moments that help us connect with the players.
“Seeing the preview for 49, everyone seems like the same people in different font over and over. maybe this is just what happens when there’s been ~50 seasons of a show,” Redditor ragtag_ozone wrote.
