After the success of The Handmaid's Tale, there's no doubt that the upcoming sequel will bring us another breathtaking twist to the franchise's universe.

As fans of The Handmaid's Tale prepare to say goodbye to the beloved series with the news that the final season will premiere on April 8, it's time to focus more on the new series on the horizon.

The show's sequel, The Testaments, is already taking shape and fans of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian world are eagerly awaiting every bit of news.

What Is The Testaments About?

Set 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, The Testaments follows the lives of three women connected to Gilead and provides a deeper look into the oppressive regime that has captivated audiences since it first aired. The novel on which the new show is based is told through the eyes of three narrators: Aunt Lydia, a former handmaid named Agnes, and Daisy, a young woman living in Canada.

The Hulu series, which has been confirmed to be in the works, is being developed by Bruce Miller, who also served as the showrunner for The Handmaid's Tale. The adaptation will follow the book's plot closely while also weaving in elements from the original TV series.

The Testaments’ Most Recent Cast Updates

This week, it was revealed that the third and final lead role has been cast: Lucy Halliday will portray Daisy. Despite her young age, Halliday is already an award-winning talent. In 2023, she won the BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actress for her performance in Blue Jean, a drama exploring sexuality in a school setting during the late 1980s.

Halliday completes the trio of main characters leading The Testaments. Her character, Daisy, is a Canadian teenager who discovers a shocking connection to the totalitarian regime of Gilead and finds herself on a dangerous path after tragedy strikes.

Ann Dowd, a familiar face from The Handmaid's Tale, will return as the ruthless Aunt Lydia. Last month it was announced that Chase Infiniti, known from Presumed Innocent, will play Agnes Jemima. And now Halliday rounds out the core cast. And fans are really happy with that choice.

“Daisy is meant to be Nichole, right? If so, wow, spot on casting. She's so pretty, and even actually looks like Moss,” Redditor FactoryKat said.

The Testaments is yet to receive a release date on Hulu.
