Yellowstone’s prequel has recently broken another major record after releasing its second and final season.

While Taylor Sheridan is booked and busy developing a second season for his latest Paramount+ hit show Landman, his other big series keeps reaching new heights, making the streamer’s history.

Premiering back in February, the second instalment of Sheridan’s 1923, which serves as another prequel to the writer-director’s Yellowstone, opened to a major success among Paramount+’s top shows, also becoming one of the most watched series ever released on the streamer’s platform.

With only 4 episodes released so far, 1923’s final season still has halfway to go until April 13, though the series has already reached another impressive milestone.

Currently regarded as the show with the biggest opening in Paramount+’s history, 1923 turned out to be even more successful than the original series, a neo-Western drama Yellowstone that concluded after 5 seasons back in 2024.

Additionally, 1923 is also a critical darling, with its ongoing second season currently holding a perfect score of 100% and the first one securing 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Taylor Sheridan has been long known for his personal approach to casting actors for his own shows, and 1923’s lead actress Helen Mirren did confirm so a couple of years ago.

During Deadline’s Contenders Television panel back in 2023, Mirren recalled her reaction to Sheridan’s intention to write his characters around the actors he casts for the roles.

“For the first time in my life, I wasn’t given a script. I had no idea what it was going to be, and likewise for Harrison [Ford] ”, she stated, adding that the whole process was even more stressful considering that she had never met Sheridan in real life before and was afraid he could ultimately change his mind.

The script didn’t take much time to arrive though, and Mirren was left in awe by the writer-director’s work on her character, revealing that “honestly, it’s amazing writing, and what’s on the page, it arrives and it’s kind of perfect. It’s extraordinary”.
