In the upcoming series It: Welcome to Derry, it seems that different Stephen King universes are about to collide. Here's what Andy Muschietti has to say about it.

The upcoming series It: Welcome to Derry, will be a prequel to the movies in the It duology, which are based on Stephen King's novel of the same name.

However, creator Andy Muschietti hinted at an unexpected connection to another one of King's works: the Dark Tower book series about the gunslinger Roland Deschain. The series about Pennywise could become part of the Dark Tower universe, making a crossover possible.

Muschietti directed the It duology, and in the new series, he will expand the story of Pennywise by telling the tale of his past adventures in Derry. In the book, the demonic clown is revealed to be an ancient creature from another world.

In an interview with TV Insider, Muschietti made it clear that he intends to explore the "cosmic" side of Pennywise's backstory.

Judging by his words, Welcome to Derry will open up an entire multiverse to viewers. It may contain different worlds with Stephen King's characters. The director and screenwriter mentioned the Dark Tower universe as one of the "neighbors" of the It universe:

“The purpose of the show, among others, is to open a window to the other side… and give the audience the feeling that everything they know about the book and stories and movies is just the tip of the iceberg.

Everything that is on the other side, it's connected to the Dark Tower because it's the same universe, the macroverse. [...] In this series, there will be more than speculation. We're gonna have that and give the audience glimpses of the other side.”
