Years after Game of Thrones’ finale, “A Song of Ice and Fire”’s author is still booked and busy — and that’s now the biggest trouble for his next projected novel.

While Game of Thrones’ universe is getting bigger thanks to spinoff series like House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, George Martin is still not over “A Song of Ice and Fire”, though he keeps promising he really wants to be.

It’s been almost fifteen years since the author started working on the series’ sixth novel titled “The Winds of Winter”, giving his fans updates every so often and still having no information about when the book will finally be ready.

During the last couple of years, Martin has faced major backlash over endless delays of the novel’s release, with many fans pointing to the writer’s desire to be involved in as many other projects as possible just to not continue with “The Winds of Winter”.

This time, however, Martin seemingly confirmed that those fans had been right all along.

George Martin Says He Needs “My Own Place” to Finish “The Winds of Winter”

Despite Game of Thrones coming to its end back in 2019, Martin has remained a major figure in the world of movies and television, and it’s not only spinoff shows he should thank for it.

For now, the author is involved in multiple upcoming movies and TV series that he develops as either a writer or a producer, which means Martin is always on the road for this or that event related to the industry.

However, Martin recently confessed he isn’t one of those writers who can be just fine developing their own novels in planes or in between public events in cafes.

“I need my own place. I need my office and my settings. I've tried. I have occasionally taken a laptop with me or in the old days a notepad or something like that. But I can't write, really, except in my own setting with my office around me where I can really get lost in the world that I'm creating instead of the world around me”, Martin said in an interview with January Magazine.

George Martin Is “Still Interested” in “The Winds of Winter”

Even though this is something Game of Thrones’ fans can really have doubts about, George Martin is sure he will finish “The Winds of Winter” at some point — and maybe the entire “A Song of Ice and Fire” series if we’re lucky.

However, the author is still not ready to sacrifice the rest of his work for finishing the novel, repeatedly stating that he treats all of his current projects like his kids and equally.

“Yes, I do love Winds of Winter. I'm still interested in it, I'm still working on it, but honestly, I love these other things, too”, Martin told Entertainment Weekly several weeks ago at the New York Comic Con panel.
