Sarah Paulson spills why “Roanoke” is her least favorite American Horror Story season, saying she was “underwhelmed by the whole experience.” Here's what we know.

American Horror Story has one of the most incredible ensemble casts, with familiar faces like Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe returning season after season.

Yes, but: filming such an intense show isn't that easy. Some cast members have been quite candid about the show.

Jessica Lange even responded with a blunt “Christ no” when asked about returning for another season, while Sarah Paulson has openly shared her struggles during the filming of “Roanoke”.

Sarah Paulson played 2 roles in “Roanoke”: Audrey Tindall, Shelby Miller in re-enactment.

During a talk with The Hollywood Reporter, Paulson didn't hold back about her experience filming the 6th season of American Horror Story.

“I just don't care about this season at all. I know people will get mad at me for saying it, but for me this was post having played Marcia and it was what I went to do right after finishing Marcia.”

Coming directly from her critically acclaimed role as Marcia Clark in American Crime Story, Paulson found herself in a creative slump with “Roanoke”. For an actress who constantly pushes limits, this feeling of regression was particularly difficult.

“I felt really kind of trapped by my responsibility and my contractual obligation to do American Horror Story. As much as it's my home and I've loved it always, it was the first time I felt like I wish I could have gone to Ryan and said, ‘Please let me sit this one out,’” Paulson admitted.

While Sarah Paulson shed light on her personal struggle with the season, many fans point to “Roanoke” as the beginning of a quality decline for AHS.

“I just feel it’s taken a decline in quality starting at “Roanoke”, and I’m not sure if it’s Ryan Murphy’s lack of involvement in story/character development or what,” Redditor Film-Direction wrote.

“For me I felt the decline began with “Roanoke”. It just didn’t feel the same after that season came out,” another fan on Reddit pointed out.
