Will Denzel Washington Get Another Oscar? Here's His Honest Response
The Equalizer’s actor has two Academy statuettes to be proud of, but he doesn’t seem to be looking forward to more anytime soon.
Denzel Washington is arguably one of the most prolific Hollywood actors to take the spotlight with whatever movie he’s in, but he isn’t the one to care about the most luring part of the film industry.
Now boasting of two Academy awards and nine nominations in total, Washington isn’t done yet with the movies and might be heading towards several more nods (especially since he was brutally snubbed at the latest Oscars ceremony).
However, the actor doesn’t believe in the entire award idea — and doesn’t see any good in his own statuettes.
Denzel Washington Is “Not That interested” in Getting Another Oscar
While the actor will likely get some recognition for starring in Spike Lee’s upcoming crime thriller Highest 2 Lowest at the next awards season, Washington himself has other things to care about rather than becoming a winner in Hollywood again.
“I don’t do it for Oscars. “I don’t care about that kind of stuff. I’ve been at this a long time, and there’s time when I won and shouldn’t have won and then didn’t win and should’ve won. Man gives the award. God gives the reward”, Washington said on the Jake’s Takes podcast.
The actor then continued, saying that those awards that he already got have never had any other impact on his life rather than just staying on a shelf in his house.
“I’m not that interested in Oscars. People ask me, ‘Where do I keep it?’ Well, next to the other one. I’m not bragging! Just telling you how I feel about it. On my last day, [Oscars] aren’t going to do me a bit of good”, Washington revealed.

The director’s upcoming neo-noir flick Highest 2 Lowest will mark his fifth collaboration with Denzel Washington, which many fans thought will also become the end of an era, considering that Lee previously stated that Washington would retire once their deal is sealed.
However, just days ago the director revealed that he hadn’t decided anything for sure and is still eager to work with Washington on the sixth movie and more.
“I said that before, but I got my mind right. I’m open to work with Denzel Washington and this not be the last film of the dynamic duo, D and Lee”, the director told The Hollywood Reporter at Highest 2 Lowest’s New York premiere last week.
The movie is now playing in select theatres across the US, eventually arriving on Apple TV+ on September 5.
